The Woman Before the Title

Who She Is

Eshal Shaukat is a woman driven by purpose, empathy, and action. From childhood, she was drawn to leadership — earning medals, securing top positions, holding roles as Student Counselor, Prefect, Deputy Head Girl, and Head Girl. But what truly shaped her were the small, human connections: noticing junior staff without lunch, children with nothing, and choosing to share.

Where It Began

Her mother would pack two lunch boxes — one for Eshal, one for someone without. Sometimes she returned home hungry. In that act of giving, she learned that small gestures plant hope and restore dignity. That early education in compassion became the foundation for everything she would later build.

"My calling arose from the silent struggles I witnessed around me. Seeing children without identity, girls denied education, communities struggling — that stirred a deep restlessness. I realized I could not remain a bystander."

Mentored by Professor Abdul Rashid Gatrad, whose belief in her work across Pakistan has been invaluable, and guided by her parents at every step, Eshal grew into a leader who acts with compassion, courage, and accountability. She is also a climate activist, serving as Pan-Asian Ambassador for WASUP — working against single-use plastic and advocating that protecting the Earth is a shared, urgent responsibility.

Purpose in Practice

What She Does

Eshal serves vulnerable children, women, and communities across Pakistan. Through the Pehchaan Project, she helps children under five obtain birth certificates — ensuring legal recognition and access to education and healthcare. She restores schools, provides clean water, builds washrooms, delivers books and food, and organises free eye surgeries.

At the GSK Women Empowerment Centre, the transformation is visible and profound. One year ago, more than 150 girls were on the streets — collecting bottles and wires, with no hope or passion for life. Today, they sit in classrooms, learning skills, rebuilding confidence, and dreaming again.

Healthcare Access
Free eye surgeries and health support organised for those who would otherwise have no access. One woman, unable to reach Eshal, pressed her hands to her photograph and wept in gratitude.

"Some call me sister, some call me mother. Together with my mother, I teach them hygiene, basic life skills, and self-worth. Now these girls are my power, my inspiration, and my reason for continuing every project."

Philosophy & Method

Her guiding philosophy is clear: before the needy reach you, you must reach them. Service is not always about money — it is about presence, attention, and care. She believes in walking alongside those she serves, listening to their stories, and empowering them with dignity. Every act, no matter how small, can transform a life. Metrics cannot measure hope restored or dignity reclaimed.

The Woman She Had to Become

The Invisible Challenges

Eshal had to outgrow the need for approval. When her new branch head removed her "Go Green Ambassador" sash and told her she was ineligible for Dignity Ambassador, she felt unseen. Senior staff distanced themselves. For two years, encouragement disappeared. Yet that loneliness became her teacher — she learned to stand firm, persist through doubt, and trust her purpose.

Womanhood & Power

Being a woman has both challenged and strengthened her. She faced discouragement and bias, yet discovered empathy, perseverance, and the ability to uplift others. Supporting girls, mentoring junior staff, and empowering women has taught her that the greatest power is lifting others while standing strong in your own purpose.

"I learned to stand firm, persist through doubt, and trust in my purpose. That loneliness became my greatest teacher."

A Moment That Stayed

A woman who received eyeglasses through Eshal's support once visited the office. Eshal was not there. She placed her hands on Eshal's photograph and wept. "In that moment," Eshal says, "I realized: degrees fade, medals gather dust, titles disappear — but dignity restored, lives touched, and hope renewed endure forever."

Impact, for Eshal, is measured in lives changed: a child attending school for the first time, a girl reclaiming her confidence, a community gaining water access. Each restored school, each registered child, each empowered girl is proof that meaningful work transcends recognition.

Success, Redefined

What a Trailblazer Is

A trailblazer creates paths where none exist, making space for others to rise. Her journey shows girls and communities that barriers can be overcome, that impact matters more than approval, and that meaningful action inspires change. She leads consciously — with empathy, care, and presence — refusing to lead with indifference, favoritism, or ego.

Success, Redefined

Success is no longer medals, titles, or applause. Success is a girl once on the streets now sitting in a classroom. Success is a child gaining identity. Success is dignity restored, hope renewed, lives changed. Sustainability comes from faith, prayer, and the support of mentors and family.

In Her Own Words

One Value She Will Never Compromise

Dignity for every child and woman.

A Habit That Has Shaped Her Growth

Reaching out daily to those in need, even in small ways.

A Philosophy That Influences Her

Empathy, service, and action — every life matters.

One Word for This Season of Her Life

Empowerment.

What She Is Building Next

Expanding Pehchaan, restoring more schools, growing the GSK Women Empowerment Centre, and teaching sustainable climate choices.

The Legacy She Hopes to Leave

A world where girls are recognised, empowered, and supported — where education is accessible, dignity is non-negotiable, and opportunity is universal.

A Letter to the Woman Standing at the Edge

To the woman who feels unseen —

You may feel unseen or discouraged. Do not let temporary rejection define you. Rise higher when others try to pull you down. Outgrow the need for approval from those who cannot see your value.

Respect and honour those who uplift you — their belief will carry you forward. Leadership and impact are measured not by recognition, but by lives changed and dignity restored. Many will discourage you, but honour those who uplift you.

My girls at the GSK Women Empowerment Centre — once collecting bottles and wires on the streets — are my power. They are my inspiration, my responsibility, and the reason I continue. Together with Professor Gatrad's mentorship and my parents' unwavering support, I am determined to make hope, education, and dignity accessible to all.

With purpose and love,
Eshal Shaukat
One Truth She Lives By
